IntoUniversity is based at The Withywood Centre in South Bristol where they work with a range of schools to support students with their education. One of the most effective programs run is the Academic Support afterschool club held on Tuesdays and Wednesday for primary school pupils.
Their application was for a tumbling composter which besides helping to tidy up the site would also help enrich the soil. The Trust was delighted to award £100 to purchase such a composter as we felt it would also encourage the pupils to grow more edible plants.
A similar amount of £100 was awarded to Hanham Abbots Junior School in South Gloucestershire for the purchase of raised beds which could be used for growing herbs and vegetables. One of the teachers was starting up a school gardening club and wanted to make productive use of an unused courtyard space at the school. Our award will help them start this project.
