Festival of Archaeology at Prior Park

Festival of Archaeology in the Pasture at Prior Park

On week days from 17 July until 28 July Prior Park will host a team of archaeology volunteers from the National Trust and Bath and Counties Archaeological Society (BACAS) to discover hidden water features in the Pasture.

They hope to find evidence of the ‘Bason of Water’ conceived by John Wood, as shown shown on the Anthony Walker drawing from 1750, as well as a cascade from 1758 plus other water features such as culverts.

See the dig in action and speak to the volunteers to see what is discovered as part of the Festival of Archaeology fortnight. Activity is Monday to Friday on both weeks, but is subject to the weather. No Booking required.
