Lunchtime Talk: Broad Meadow

Lunchtime Talk: Broad Meadow

Fri 7 Jun 1pm – 2pm, Pervasive Media Studio Event Space and YouTube Live
PMS resident & artist Sylvia Rimat and collaborating artist & gardener Charli Clark will be talking about their free wildflower installation and audio experience ‘Broad Meadow’, which is taking place in Broadmead Bristol from Fri 24th May until Thu 20th June 2024. The work will launch as part of Mayfest 2024 and also feature as part of Festival of Nature.

The work reconnects to Bristol prior to the 14th century, when Broadmead was a wet meadow, regularly flooded by the river Frome. The wildflower installation’s growing conditions and plant species have been carefully chosen to mimic the meadow that once may have existed there. Whilst sitting immersed amongst the 55 wildflower boxes, audiences will be able to access an audio piece via their smartphone that tells about our intertwined relationship with the plant world and takes the listener on a journey to experience the lost nature of Broadmead.

The talk is an opportunity to find out more about the research and design of the meadow, notions of identity and the influence of more than human species on the creation of the audio work and about the project’s workshop programme with secondary schools and community groups across Bristol.
